China Camp Motor Vehicle Collision Fatality Identified

The decedent has been identified as:

Gerard William Jasper HAYNES, a 67-year-old male resident of San Rafael.

On Saturday, September 14, 2019 at approximately 12:10 PM, it was reported to 9-1-1 a vehicle was located by passing persons approximately 30-feet off the roadway, upside down and submerged in a waterway, within the China Camp State Park, near Buckeye Point, San Rafael. First Responders were immediately dispatched to the scene and discovered the vehicle was occupied by a lone male occupant, who appeared unconscious and lifeless. The subject was extricated from the vehicle and his death was pronounced on the scene. For reasons unknown and which remain under investigation, the subject’s vehicle left the roadway at an unknown time and was delayed in being discovered until happened upon by unrelated and uninvolved persons. 

The decedent has been identified as:

Gerard William Jasper HAYNES, a 67-year-old male resident of San Rafael.

A forensic post-mortem examination with toxicology testing have been scheduled to be conducted later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending toxicology results and the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the California Highway Patrol-Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office-Coroner Division. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol-Marin Office
