Coroner Identifies Body from Tomales Bay

On Tuesday, 07/18/2017, at approximately 3:15 PM, the owner of the Tomales Bay Oyster Company, who had been last seen on the Tomales Bay waters in a skiff style boat, was reported missing after his boat was located under its own power, travelling in circles unoccupied.  It was presumed the subject fell overboard from the vessel into the bay waters.  An extensive search was conducted to locate the subject by multiple Public Safety Agencies and community citizens to no avail.  On Saturday, 07/22/2017, at approximately 1:59 PM, a body was discovered floating in the Tomales Bay.  The body was recovered and taken ashore and transported to the Coroner Division pending additional investigation by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner Division.

The decedent has been identified by the Coroner Division as:

Charles Arthur Friend III, a 70-year old male resident of Oakland, CA.

A post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled.  The cause and manner of death will be pending toxicology results and the conclusion of the investigation by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office – Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Friend III.
