Highway 101 Pedestrian vs. Vehicle Fatality in Novato Identified

The decedent has been identified as:   

Justiniano Ixpec CAYAXON, a 49-year-old male from Guatemala, reportedly residing in Novato, CA    

On Sunday, 10/21/2018, at approximately 07:00 P.M., 9-1-1 was contacted reporting a pedestrian walking in the northbound travel lanes of Highway 101 was struck by a passing motorist, who without delay yielded and rendered aid.  First Responders were immediately dispatched to the reported location near the Alameda del Prado overcrossing and located a male subject unconscious and unresponsive with traumatic injuries in the travel portion of the highway.  Resuscitative medical aid was provided by passing motorists in addition to First Responders upon their arrival at the scene.   Despite these efforts, the subject failed to respond and his death was pronounced on the scene.

The decedent has been identified as:

Justiniano Ixpec CAYAXON, a 49-year-old male from Guatemala, reportedly residing in Novato, CA    

A forensic post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the California Highway Patrol and this office.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol, Marin Office.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Cayaxon.
