Narcotics Investigation by SIU Detectives and DEA leads to significant drug seizure

Novato Man arrested after narcotics investigation by SIU Detectives and DEA.

On Thursday February 18, 2021, The Marin County Sheriff’s Office Specialized Investigative Unit (SIU), arrested Vincent Robert Butt, of Novato, for multiple narcotics violations. Butt had previously been arrested by the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force in October of 2019 for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell and possession of oxycodone. Butt was free on bail from the 2019 case.

The SIU continued to receive information about Butt’s continued narcotics sales in Novato after Butt bailed out from jail on his original charges.  The SIU, with the assistance of the DEA, began a new joint investigation on Butt based on the information provided to them. Investigators quickly learned Butt was still actively selling large quantities of methamphetamine within the county of Marin.

The investigation came to a close when the SIU Investigators located Butt at the Black Point Boat Launch in Novato. A search of Butt’s rental vehicle revealed over six and a half ounces of methamphetamine, over 2 grams of heroin, items consistent with narcotics sales, and narcotic paraphernalia. Butt was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine for sales, transportation of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and committing a felony while out on bail.

Butt was booked into the Marin County Jail and is currently free on $55,000 bail.

The joint investigation between the Sheriff’s Office SIU and the DEA continues as DEA is seeking possible future federal indictments against Butt.
