Novato Motor Vehicle Collision Fatality Involving Minor Child

The decedent, was 16-year-old male from Novato, CA. Due to his age, his identity will not be disclosed by the Coroner Division.

On Sunday, September 15, 2019 at approximately 12:02 PM it was reported to 9-1-1 a motor vehicle collision occurred in the 1100 block of Simmons Lane, Novato. Reportedly, three minor aged subjects were traveling inside a vehicle, which for reasons unknown and remain under investigation, lost control, left the roadway and collided with a cement retaining wall. First Responders were immediately summoned to the scene and discovered the driver of the vehicle unresponsive and lifeless in cardiopulmonary arrest with signs of traumatic injuries. The remaining occupants were extricated from the vehicle and provided with medical aid by First Responders, and transported to an area hospital for additional medical treatment. Tragically and unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on the scene.

A forensic post-mortem examination with toxicology testing have been scheduled to be conducted later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending toxicology results and the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the Novato Police Department and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office-Coroner Divison. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Novato Police Department.
