Point Reyes National Seashore Missing Hiker Located Deceased- Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:                                                                         

Mitra RASTI, a 58-year-year-old female  from San Jose, CA

On Sunday July 18, 2021, at approximately 9:37 PM an overdue hiker was reported to 9-1-1.  Reportedly the subject had been hiking alone within the Point Reyes National Seashore having departed from the Bear Valley Visitor Center in the early evening.  When she failed to return in a timely manner, a concerned family member reported her overdue to authorities.  An extensive search ensued by multiple first responder agencies including the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team, who attempted to locate the subject.  On Monday July 19, 2021, at approximately 6:10 AM the body of an unconscious and unresponsive subject was discovered on the beach near Arch Rock at the base of a cliff.  First Responders pronounced death without providing resuscitative aid.  With the assistance of Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Henry-1 Helicopter, the subject was recovered from the scene and airlifted to Divide Meadows to awaiting personnel.

A forensic post mortem examination with toxicology testing is scheduled for later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the National Park Service and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the National Park Service
