San Rafael Motor Vehicle Collision Fatality - Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:

Mrs. Norma Jean NIXON, an 83-year-old female resident of San Rafael, CA

Last evening, Sunday February 23, 2020, at approximately 5:27 P.M., it was reported to 9-1-1 a solo vehicle traffic collision with injuries occurred in the 300 block of Locust Avenue, San Rafael.  First Responders were immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived shortly after too discover a vehicle had left the roadway and collided with a residence structure.  The subject, who was determined to be the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was located unresponsive, unconscious and lifeless.  Sadly, her death was pronounced at the scene by paramedics. 

Preliminary information learned during the scene investigation intimated the subject had been navigating her vehicle down her long residence paved driveway towards the street, and for reasons unknown and which remain under investigation, lost control of her vehicle resulting in the collision.

A forensic post mortem examination and toxicology testing has been scheduled for Tuesday, 02/25/2020.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the San Rafael Police Department and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the San Rafael Police Department.
