07/25/2022 – Mission Type: Assist Marin County Sheriff’s Office Detectives with Homicide Investigation

Case: 22-2034

Offense: 187 PC - Homicide

The sUAS Team was requested to assist the Investigations Division with a homicide investigation. The sUAS team was tasked with capturing evidentiary photographs and video footage of the crime scene both from above and at eye level. The footage was submitted into evidence as part of the investigation. 

08/06/2022 – Mission Type: Assist Marin County Search and Rescue in Search for Missing Hiker.

Case: SO22-2178

Offense: -N/A-

The sUAS Team was requested to assist Marin County Search and Rescue with the search for a missing hiker in the Indian Valley Open Space Preserve. The missing person was last seen several hours prior to being requested. The sUAS Team utilized a UAV to search the area utilizing both Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) technology and the onboard cameras. The missing person was later located by Search and Rescue.

08/08/2022 – Mission Type: Assist Marin County Search and Rescue in Search for Missing Person at Risk.

The sUAS Team was requested to assist the Novato Police Department and Marin County Search and Rescue in the search for a missing person with Dementia. The sUAS team was requested to utilize a UAV to search wooded and open space areas surrounding the residence where the person was last seen. We utilized both Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) technology, a spotlight and the onboard cameras to search for the missing person. The missing person was ultimately located within a vehicle in the area by Marin County Search and Rescue.  

08/23/2022 – Mission Type: Assist the San Rafael Police Department in Search for Sexual Assault Suspect.

Case: SO22-2307

Offense: 220 PC – Assault with the intent to commit rape

The sUAS Team was requested to assist the San Rafael Police Department with the search for a sexual assault suspect who fled from Police Officers. The sUAS Team deployed a UAV in an attempt to locate the suspect on a heavily wooded hillside while Officers maintained a perimeter. The UAV was also utilized to provide overwatch of the Officers who searched the hillside for the suspect. The suspect was later apprehended in a neighborhood after the sUAS Team was cleared from the scene. 

08/23/2022 – Mission Type: Attempt to Locate Suspects in Carjacking and Robbery

Case: SO22-2361

Offense: 215 PC – Carjacking, 211 PC - Robbery

Deputies responded to a reported robbery and carjacking that just occurred. Upon arrival, deputies located the vehicle that was carjacked at the end of a nearby street. The street backed up to a levee where it was believed the suspects fled. A Deputy on-scene retrieved a UAV from their patrol vehicle and searched for the suspects. The suspects were not located at this time, but were later arrested after an investigation by Detectives. 

08/27/2022 – Mission Type: Assist Ross Valley Fire Department in Attempting to Locate Vehicle Accident

The sUAS Team was requested to assist the Ross Valley Fire Department who was dispatched to a reported vehicle accident that was heard and not seen. Once on-scene, fire personnel were unable to locate an accident. Due to the terrain of the area where the vehicle accident was heard, the sUAS Team was requested to check the area for a possible vehicle accident that may not be visible from the roadway. The area was checked utilizing a UAV and no accident was located.
