RE: Arrest - Possession of suspected Child Pornography

In August 2018, The Marin County Sheriff’s Office received a “Cyber Tip” from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).  The tip included information about an image of suspected child pornography found on a server.  Detectives began the process of identifying where the image originated from through a series of search warrants.  This led to a residence in San Rafael, Ca.  This morning detectives served a search warrant at that residence and located several files on a computer that contained suspected child pornography.  Daniel Hostrup, Age 25, San Rafael, Ca. was arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for possession of material depicting obscene images of a minor.

The investigation in on-going to identify potential victims portrayed in the images and to forensically examine the electronic evidence. There is no initial indication that any of the victims are from Marin County.
