Identity of Driver in Fatal Collision on Sir Francis Drake Blvd Released

The deceased driver of an auto versus tree along Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in Fairfax has been identified as Brian P. Davis, a 51-year-old male

On 10/04/2016, at approximately 0047 hours, a Fairfax resident in the area adjacent to westbound Sir Francis Drake Blvd., west of Shadow Creek Ct., reported hearing a vehicle accelerating, followed shortly after by a loud crash.  Law enforcement and fire department personnel responded to the area and found that a 2010 BMW M5 collided head on into a large tree along the north shoulder of westbound Sir Francis Drake Blvd.  A single adult male occupant was found deceased in the driver’s seat.  The initial scene investigation conducted by the Marin area California Highway Patrol suggests the vehicle was traveling between 70 and 90 mph at the time of the impact.  No evidence of skid marks was identified on the pavement leading to the area of impact.  There are no initial indications another vehicle was involved in this incident.

The Coroner Division of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the decedent as Brian P. Davis, a 51-year-old male with a temporary residence in Bolinas, CA.   The Coroner’s investigation revealed a recent public social media posting related to Mr. Davis, indicating there was a concern for his welfare, as he recently voiced intent to harm himself.

The cause and manner of death are under active investigation.  An autopsy and toxicology testing are scheduled for later this week.  Results of the examination will be pending toxicology results and the conclusion of the CHP investigation.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time.  Any questions regarding the investigation into the crash should be directed to the PIO at the Marin area CHP, Officer Andrew Barclay 415-407-3924
