Identity of Highway-101 fatality released

The victim who sustained injuries on northbound Highway-101 has been identified by the Coroner Division as: Haiyuan ZHU, a 66-year-old male resident of San Francisco, CA.

On September 5, 2017 at approximately 2035 hours, emergency calls were received reporting a body was down on the ground at northbound Highway-101, at the Smith Ranch Road off ramp.  Personnel from the California Highway Patrol, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, San Rafael Fire Department, and San Rafael Police Department responded to the scene, which was the off ramp lane, near the vehicle entrance to the bus pad.  The man was transported to Kaiser San Rafael and passed away shortly after, despite lifesaving efforts. 

The decedent has been identified as follows:

     Haiyuan ZHU, a 66-year-old male resident of San Francisco, CA.

Mr. Zhu sustained injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle; however, there were no vehicles stopped in the area.  We are asking for the public’s assistance if someone may have seen a collision prior to the emergency calls. 

A post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled. The cause and manner of death will be pending toxicology results and the conclusion of the investigation by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office – Coroner Division, and the California Highway Patrol. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active investigation. Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol – Marin Area: Officer Andrew Barclay / 415-407-3924
