Identity of San Rafael Pedestrian Death Released

On 10/06/2016, at approximately 11:15pm, an adult male pedestrian walking across Second Street between Tamalpais Ave and Hetherton Street in San Rafael was struck by an oncoming vehicle headed eastbound on Second Street.  The pedestrian sustained visible traumatic injuries and his death was subsequently pronounced on scene at 11:24pm.  The San Rafael Police Department is conducting the investigation into the collision.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified by the Coroner Division of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office as Melvin Andre Pete, a 40-year-old male resident of San Rafael.

The cause and manner of death are under active investigation, and a post mortem forensic examination has been scheduled to aid in the determination of the cause of death.  Results of the examination will be pended for toxicology testing and the conclusion of San Rafael Police Department’s investigation.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time. Further inquiry into the circumstances of the collision should be directed to the San Rafael Police Department.
