Identity of Stinson Beach recovery released

The decedent who was recovered in the ocean waters near Stinson Beach on December 10, 2017 has been identified as:

     Tyler Anthony SILVA, a 21-year-old male resident of Manteca and Antioch, CA.

On December 10, 2017, the Coroner Division was notified of a pending death investigation.  The National Park Service advised a lifeless body was located floating in the ocean approximately two miles west of Stinson Beach.  This person was recovered and brought to shore, where his death was formally confirmed, with no resuscitative efforts needed.   

A thumbprint comparison confirmed the decedent’s identification as follows:

            Tyler Anthony SILVA, a 21-year-old male resident of Manteca and Antioch, CA. 

On December 3, 2017, Mr. Silva went missing while hiking near the Muir Beach overlook.  Subsequently, an extensive search was performed by multiple agencies; however, all efforts were fruitless.  The Coroner Division of the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, along with the National Park Service are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr. Silva’s death. 

A post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for later today. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time as this is an active investigation. Any further questions regarding this incident should be directed to the National Park Service / Public Information Officer: Dana POLK /
