Mount Burdell Open Space Assault

On Thursday, January 31st at around 10:00am in the Mount Burdell Open Space in Novato, the Sheriff's Office was called for a report of an assault between a bicyclist and a hiker.  The victim hiker told the deputies that the suspect bicyclist began yelling at her and her off-leash dog after the dog started barking at him.   The  victim said the suspect got off the bike and began to kick her dog.  She then tried to stop the attack by pushing the suspect away from her dog.  The suspect attacked the victim by knocking her to the ground and choking her.  The suspect then fled the area in a van leaving the bicycle and personal items behind.  The victim and dog did not sustain lasting injuries.  On Friday afternoon Sheriff's deputies found the suspect, who claimed he was assaulted by the hiker, in the Hamilton area of Novato.  Jeffrey W. Skelton age 63, All Points, Novato was booked into the Marin County Jail for assault likely to produce great bodily injury, cruelty to an animal and violation of probation.
