Inverness search information and future plans

The search for Carol Kiparsky and Ian Irwin continues.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with the family of Carol Kiparsky and Ian Irwin in an effort to find them. During our searches with multiple K9 Teams, we have received four independent alerts from Cadaver K9 Teams in the area of Shell Beach. We believe that our extensive search efforts with every resource that has been available to us would have located Carol and Ian if they were responsive or in an area accessible by foot on land.

We’ve worked tirelessly combing through all leads and areas surrounding the cottage they were vacationing at and are now calling this a recovery mission. We have been in close contact with family and will continue to search for Carol and Ian. Our thoughts are with the Kiparsky and Irwin family during this difficult time.

Search plans for the next four days:

Thursday: 2/20/2020 – We will utilize an airplane, US Coast Guard Helicopter and a boat staffed by inverness Fire Department to comb the area from the air, specifically Tomales Bay and the shoreline.

Friday: 2/21/2020 – We will utilize jet skis, National Park Service (NPS) boats, an airplane and our sUAS Team (Drones) to comb Tomales Bay and the shoreline.

Saturday: 2/22/2020 – We will be planning another search utilizing ground searchers, K9 Teams, NPS boats, an airplane and our sUAS Team (Drones).

Sunday: 2/23/2020 – We will utilize NPS boats and an airplane to search Tomales Bay.

Monday: Jet skis

The United States Coast Guard is assisting us in our search planning of Tomales Bay.

We are asking that our community members please be diligent if they are in the Inverness area. Please observe your surroundings and report anything out of the ordinary or suspicious to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. Please allow our searchers to do their job by giving them the unobtrusive space to search as we work toward finding Carol and Ian.
