Press Release of Voluntary Missing Person - Mint Butterfield, April 25th, 2024

Press Release of Voluntary Missing Person - Mint Butterfield, April 25th, 2024

On April 22, at approximately 0902 hours, a call came into our Communications Center regarding a 16-year-old missing person, identified as Mint Butterfield. Mint’s pronouns are they/them. Mint was reported missing by their mother, Caterina Fake. Fake had last seen her daughter at approximately 2200 hours on April 21st inside their home, located in Bolinas.

The following morning, Fake realized that Mint was not at home, and discovered a note, indicating that Mint had left the residence, with a suitcase at an unknown time during the night or early morning. It is unclear how Mint left the area, as they did not have access to a vehicle, or phone.

Fake and Mint also share a home in San Francisco, and it is believed, based on statements from Fake, that Mint may have left for the Tenderloin District of San Francisco.

At this time, we have no information to believe that Mint was taken against their will. The Sheriff’s Office is considering Mint a voluntary-missing juvenile, who is “At- Risk” due to a reported previous threat of suicide.

Marin County Deputies entered Mint into the Missing and Unidentified Persons System (MUPS) and sent out All Points Bulletin flyers to surrounding law enforcement agencies with a description and photograph of Mint.

In collaboration with San Francisco Police Department, detectives from both agencies have attempted to find Mint, but have been unable to locate them at the time of this release.

Unfortunately, there has been misinformation disseminated through social media and other outlets regarding potential associates or persons who may know of Mint’s whereabouts. Additionally, various phone numbers have been posted to call asking for information.

We ask that any information related to the whereabouts of Mint are directed to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office at (415) 479-2311 or email tips@marinsheriff.org
