Richmond – San Rafael Bridge Traffic Collision Fatality- Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:                                           

Darolyn Alejandra REYES RODAS, a 19-year-old female from San Rafael, CA.

On Sunday December 17, 2023, at approximately 8:08 PM a motor vehicle collision was reported to 9-1-1, having occurred on westbound Interstate Highway 580 on the Richmond San Rafael Bridge. Reportedly the decedent was the passenger inside a sedan vehicle noted to be travelling at a high rate of speed, which in the process of completing a lane change, for reasons unknown and remains under investigation, struck another vehicle travelling in the same direction at a slower speed. As a result of the vehicles colliding, the sedan the decedent had been a passenger in rolled over multiple times coming to rest within the roadway on its roof. Due to the collision the decedent regrettably sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was found unconscious and unresponsive inside the vehicle. Medical aid was provided by bystanders, who stopped on the scene and pulled her from the vehicle, providing CPR prior to first responders arriving. Upon paramedic’s arrival, physiologic signs of death were noted, and her death was pronounced on the scene. The drivers of the vehicles were transported from the scene to an area hospital for medical treatment.

A forensic postmortem examination with routine toxicology testing is being completed later this week. The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation. Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office.
