West Marin Solo Motorcycle Traffic Collision Fatality- Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:                                           

Marco A. HERNANDEZ CASTELLANOS, a 53-year-old male from Citrus Heights, CA.

On Saturday April 20, 2024, at approximately 2:17 PM, it was reported to 9-1-1 a solo motorcycle collision had occurred in the 2400 block of Tomales Petaluma Road, east of Twin Bridge Road in West Marin. Reportedly the rider of a 2018 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 sport style bike, who had been riding with a group of motorcyclists, for reasons unknown and remain under investigation, lost control of his motorcycle leaving the roadway, collided with a fence, and then struck a utility pole. The rider was ejected from his motorcycle upon impact with the fixed objects and sustained major traumatic injuries. The subject was discovered to be unconscious and unresponsive moments following the collision. Medical aid was immediately provided by bystanders until the arrival of First Responders at the scene; the subject was discovered to be in cardiopulmonary arrest. Paramedics provided additional resuscitative aid. Most regrettably, the subject failed to respond with his death declared at 2:41 PM.

A forensic postmortem examination with routine toxicology testing is scheduled for Tuesday April 23, 2024. The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Santa Rosa Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.
