The Mounted Posse unit is a part of our Search and Rescue efforts, available to assist anywhere they are needed.
The Mounted Sheriff’s Posse of Marin County was established in 1945 as a unit to assist the Sheriff and maintain the Western Heritage of our County. Today, the unit is a Search and Rescue unit available on call to search in the rugged terrain’s of Marin County and throughout Northern California. The unit is used by the Sheriff as a ceremonial Color Guard for parades and other requirements of the Sheriff. The unit is comprised of approximately 40 volunteers who provide their own equipment, animals, uniforms, and time for the betterment of our community. The unit is a non profit organization operating through fund raising events and donations.
