Bay Waters Boating Incident Resulting in Fatality of a Minor Child

The decedent was an 11-year-old male from Tiburon, CA. Due to his age, his identity will not be disclosed by the Coroner Division.

On Sunday, September 15, 2019 at approximately 7:00 PM, it was reported to 9-1-1 a boating mishaps occurred in the open Bay waters near Angel Island resulting in two minor children being ejected from a private pleasure boat into the water.  Reportedly during the recovery of the two minor children, they were struck by the vessel. The children were pulled aboard the vessel and transported to the Corinthian Yacht Club, located in Tiburon, CA. Tragically and unfortunately, one child sustained severe traumatic injuries as result of this incident and his death was pronounced on the scene at the yacht club, dockside. The second child was transported by First Responders to an area hospital for medical treatment.

A forensic post-mortem examination with toxicology testing have been scheduled to be conducted later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending toxicology results and the conclusion of the joint investigation being completed by the Tiburon Police Department, United States Coast Guard, and Marin County Sheriff’s Office.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the aforementioned investigating agencies.
