Body Found Near Sausalito Shoreline - Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:                                           

Carolynn Leslie DEAN, a 70-year-old female from Sausalito, CA.

On Friday, March 10, 2023, at approximately 08:25 AM it was reported to 9-1-1 the remains of a human body were discovered by a passerby within the surf line of the Bay waters near the Spinnaker Restaurant in Sausalito.  First Responders were immediately dispatched to the area and located a fully clothed female subject unconscious and unresponsive floating within the water.  She was immediately extricated, and physiologic signs of death were determined to be present. Her death was pronounced on the scene without resuscitative aid provided.  At the time of the subject’s discovery her identity was unknown as she had no identification upon her person.  Through continued investigation, her identity was learned  and confirmed followed by a search for her legal next of kin.  Her family was then able to be contacted and notified of her passing. Based upon preliminary investigation, no overt signs of foul play were noted and / or suspected.

A forensic postmortem examination with toxicology testing is being completed on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the Sausalito Police Department and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Sausalito Police Department.
