Body of Missing Swimmer from San Francisco Coast near Land’s End Beach in San Francisco Bay – Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:

Anahi Alejandra RIVERO, a 24-year-old female from San Jose, CA

On Saturday, October 05, 2019 at approximately 08:36 A.M., a female subject was discovered lifeless in the Bay waters approximately 1.5 miles off the coast of Land’s End Beach, in San Francisco.  Purportedly the subject was reported missing by her friends on Friday evening, October 04, 2019, at around 8:23 P.M. after she entered the rough ocean waters to swim near Mile Rock Beach, in San Francisco; reportedly she disappeared into the surf, not returning to shore. An extensive search immediately was commenced by multiple First Responder agencies on land and sea, by boat and helicopter.  Despite an arduous search, the subject was not discovered until the following morning when she was found unresponsive in the Bay waters.  She was recovered from the waters and placed aboard a United States Coast Guard rescue vessel and transported to Marin County.  

Despite this tragic incident occurring in San Francisco and her body being located off the coast of Land’s End Beach in San Francisco, jurisdiction was not assumed by the San Francisco agencies and the subject was transported back to the United States Coast Guard - Station Golden Gate, located in Sausalito, CA where her death was pronounced by the Southern Marin Fire Department Paramedics.

Anahi Alejandra RIVERO, a 24-year-old female from San Jose, CA

A forensic post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for today.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division in addition to the San Francisco Police Department, U.S. Parks Police and United States Coast Guard.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the San Francisco Police Department, U.S. Parks Police and United States Coast Guard.
