The decedent has been positively identified as:
Sherman Wayne CHEN, a 67-year-old male from San Francisco. CA
On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at approximately 12:23 PM it was reported to 9-1-1 a helmeted subject riding his electric powered bicycle on the Bay View Trail within the China Camp State Park, for reasons unknown and remain under investigation, lost control of his bicycle while ascending a hillside and rode off a steep ridgeline falling to the ground below. The subject was located on a steep ravine with injuries consistent with a long fall. First Responders were dispatched to the scene, located the subject and Paramedics provided resuscitative aid. Despite the extensive efforts of bystanders and Paramedics, the subject regrettably declined further, failed to respond to the delivered treatment, and died at the scene.

A forensic postmortem examination with toxicology testing is scheduled for later this week. The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the California State Parks Rangers and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division. No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation. Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California State Parks Rangers.
