China Camp State Park Death Investigation Update - Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:                                                                           

Mr. Robert George MICHAELS, a 45-year-old male with no fixed address in San Francisco, CA

On Sunday, February 28, 2021 around 1240 PM, Deputies responded to the 1600 block of N. San Pedro Road (China Camp) for a report of a possible dead body. Upon arrival, Deputies located a deceased male subject approximately 30- feet off the roadway.  The death was treated as suspicious in manner and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division Detectives along with Coroner Division Coroner Investigators completed a comprehensive scene investigation.  The subject had no identification upon his person at the time of his discovery and his identity was unknown.  Working collaboratively, the Detectives and Investigator’s later positively identified the subject via scientific means.  A next of kin searched was then completed and relatives located out of state were contacted and advised of the subject’s passing.  The investigation remains ongoing and no additional details are available for release at this time.

A forensic post mortem examination with toxicology testing is scheduled for later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Investigations Division.
