On Friday October 18, 2019 at approximately 8:00 AM, our Communications Center received a call of a possible medical emergency inside the China Camp State Park near the area of Miwok Meadows, 1400 N. San Pedro Road in San Rafael. Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene and located a deceased subject off the roadway. After an extensive investigation was completed at the scene by multiple agencies, it was determined the subject met with foul play and his death is being investigated as a homicide.

The victim has been positively identified as:

Jesus Jose VASQUEZ-VELAZQUEZ, a 22-year-old male from Richmond, CA

A forensic post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for today.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations and Coroner’s Divisions.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division.
