First Quarter 2023 statistics for sUAS Team deployments by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office
01/19/2023 – Mission Type: Assist MCSO Search and Rescue with search for missing, suicidal person in Marin Headlands.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team requested the sUAS Team to assist in a missing person search in the area of the Marin Headlands. A total of four UAV flights were flown in the search zone but nothing noteworthy was discovered.
01/28/23 – Mission Type: Assist Marin County Fire with with a search for a missing kayaker in Tomales Bay.
The sUAS Team was requested to assist the Marin County Fire Department with a search in the Tomales Bay for a missing kayaker. Two UAV flights were conducted in the area the kayaker was last seen but he was not found.
2/13/23 – Mission Type: Assist The California Highway Patrol with search for two suspects who fled from the scene of a commercial burglary.
Offense: 459 PC, 2800.1 CVC
The California Highway Patrol requested the MCSO sUAS Team to assist in a manhunt for two suspects who fled on foot from CHP officers following a vehicle pursuit. Two flights were conducted in the area around where the suspect vehicle was abandoned. No sign of the suspects was observed.
03/25/23 through 03/31/23 – Mission Type: Assist the Marin County Emergency Operations Center with monitoring the progression of a mudslide in unincorporated Novato.
Case: SO23-790 (Supplemental reports 1-4)
The Marin County Sheriff’s Office sUAS Team was requested for an extended operation to monitor the status/progression of a mudslide located on the hill side near Southbound HWY 101 in unincorporated Novato. This operation included daily UAV flights in order to ensure the slide did not interfere with nearby utilities supplying water and gas to the County of Marin.
