On Tuesday, March 03, 2020 at approximately 09:46 AM, the subject was located deceased in a densely wooded area beside the Oakwood Valley Road Trail inside the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The subject was reported missing to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 10:46 AM. Searches for the subject were completed by multiple personnel until his discovery. Investigators from the National Park Service, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office along with the Coroner Division completed a scene investigation regarding the circumstances surrounding the subject’s death.
Sadly, Mr. Klingenmaier’s death has been determined to be purposeful in nature and at his own hand. Other suspicious circumstances and /or foul play have been ruled out; there is no threat to the community.
The decedent has been positively identified as:
Scot Herman KLINGENMAIER, a 56-year-old male formerly of Middletown, CA and most recently of Mill Valley, CA.
A forensic post mortem examination was conducted yesterday, March 03, 2020. No additional information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time out of respect to the subject’s family. His name had been withheld pending positive identification confirmation and to allow family members located throughout the Country to be properly notified. The cause and manner of death will be withheld until the case investigation has been concluded by the National Park Service and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office– Coroner Division. Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the National Park Service.
