Highway 101 Novato Traffic Collision Fatality- Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:                                                                           

Michael C. GROSSMAN, a 46-year-old male  from Petaluma, CA.

On Monday March 07, 2022 at approximately 6:40 AM, a motor vehicle collision with injuries was reported to 9-1-1- having occurred on southbound Highway 101 south of San Antonio Road near the Olompali State Historic Park in unincorporated Novato.  Reportedly a motorcyclist was sharing lanes while travelling southbound on the highway at highway speeds and struck the rear / side of another parallel moving vehicle he was attempting to pass in-between the travel lanes.  The operator lost control of his motorcycle, struck a second vehicle and was ejected from his vehicle to the roadway and sustained multiple traumatic injuries.  First Responders were immediately dispatched to the incident scene and located the subject unconscious, unresponsive and in cardiopulmonary arrest with bystander medical aid being provided. Despite resuscitative medical aid provided, the subject failed to respond to treatment and his death was pronounced on the scene.

Michael C. GROSSMAN, a 46-year-old male  from Petaluma, CA.

A forensic post mortem examination with toxicology testing is scheduled for later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Marin Division and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol – Marin Division.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Grossman.
