The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has determined there is no merit to the reported assault of the juvenile jogger in the Lucas Valley area on February 1, 2021. 

After receiving the initial report of the assault, our Detectives worked tirelessly to follow-up on all leads and aspects of the investigation. This included multiple interviews with the alleged victim, interviews with residents in the area where the assault was reported to have occurred, utilizing a sketch artist, locating video surveillance in the area, pushing out all the info for public safety awareness and also following up on the leads we received from the public. Through the investigation we were able to locate video evidence that led us to believe the assault may not have occurred. When presented with this evidence the juvenile admitted to fabricating the information reported to Law Enforcement. 

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office takes the report of any crime very seriously and we remain committed to investigating all crimes to the fullest extent.
