Juvenile with unregistered handgun, arrested in Southern Marin

Juvenile arrested in Southern Marin with unregistered handgun, after shoplifting at local business.

Over the weekend, Deputies responded to a shoplifting call in Southern Marin. Deputies found 2 subjects matching the description in the area. During the detention process and subsequent search, one subject attempted to reach into a small satchel across his chest, and fought with Deputies who tried to stop his attempt to retrieve an item from inside the satchel.

Ultimately, after detaining the subject in handcuffs, it was determined the item he attempted to retrieve was a loaded, unregistered handgun, with 17 9mm rounds. Based on the age of the subject, he was arrested and booked into juvenile hall. The subject was also in possession of a black ski mask.

The second subject was given an in-house citation, and will meet with our School Resource Officer for diversion, versus having any criminal charges through the Court system.

We are thankful everything worked out, and no one was injured.
