Marin County Detectives Make Arrest in Medical Office Burglary
In December 2024, a commercial burglary occurred at a medical office in unincorporated Mill Valley. A suspicious male was seen loitering inside the office. A therapist found the man inside her private office. When confronted, he claimed he was seeking treatment for a knee injury; however, the therapist did not treat knees.
Shortly after the man left, multiple physical therapists in the office discovered that several bank cards were missing from their wallets and purses. Following the theft, victims reported fraudulent charges on their stolen cards.
Through investigation, the suspect was identified as Adrian Thompson, 43, of Sacramento. Thompson has eight prior convictions for burglary, including a previous prison sentence.
As the investigation continued, Thompson was identified as a member of a larger commercial burglary crew. This crew traveled nationwide, committing similar burglaries in multiple states, including Texas, South Carolina, and Washington. The crew specifically targeted business offices during business hours. Once inside, they worked together to steal bank cards from employees' unattended wallets. After stealing the cards, they would immediately begin making purchases.
On April 30, 2025, Marin County Sheriff’s Detectives located Thompson and two individuals believed to be part of this prolific burglary crew in the city of Oakland. Thompson was arrested for the Marin County burglary, as well as a $200,000 burglary warrant out of Washington.
Riana Buffin, 28, of Oakland, was also arrested on a $150,000 theft warrant from Washington. The third crew member had a non-extraditable $100,000 theft warrant.
Both Buffin and Thompson were booked into the Marin County Jail.
