Mill Valley Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle Fatality - Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:                                                                           

Melvin Lee RABY, a 68-year-old Male  from San Rafael, CA

On Friday July 16, 2021 at approximately 1:22 PM, 9-1-1 was contacted reporting a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the 300 block of Summit Avenue, Mill Valley.  Reportedly the subject had been working on private property when his previously parked vehicle, which was located in the residence driveway, for reasons unknown and which remains under investigation, began to roll backwards, striking the subject and pinning him in-between the vehicle and residence.  First Responders were immediately dispatched to the scene, and arrived to find the subject unconscious, unresponsive with traumatic injuries present.  Shortly after, the subject was extricated and determined to be in cardiac arrest.  Sadly, his death was pronounced on the scene without additional resuscitative aid provided.

A forensic post mortem examination with toxicology testing is scheduled for later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the Mill Valley Police Department and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Mill Valley Police Department.
