Richardson Bay Boat Fire Fatality - Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:

Mr. Halsey Eugene DUNMAN, a 67- year-old male from the Anchor-Out community of Sausalito, CA

On Saturday morning, November 14, 2020 at approximately 12:24 A.M. it was reported to 9-1-1 a sailboat was on fire within the Anchor-Out community of the Richardson Bay, offshore of the US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model Visitor Center facility.  Multiple first responders were immediately dispatched to the area, and upon their arrival discovered a fully engulfed vessel, approximately 200 yards from the shoreline.  They immediately began providing fire suppression duties in addition to completing a search of the vessel.  A single person was sadly discovered aboard the vessel unresponsive and unconscious having sustained significant thermal conflagration injuries.  The subject was extricated from the vessel and regrettably, he was declared deceased on the scene without resuscitative aid provided.

A forensic post mortem examination with toxicology testing has been completed.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division.
