San Rafael Police Investigating an In Custody Death at Marin County Jail
The San Rafael Police Department is investigating the in-custody death of an incarcerated person, housed at the Marin County Jail.
On May 30th, 2024, at approximately 0209 hours, a Deputy performing a routine check of people in the jail, found an incarcerated person in need of medical attention, located within their solely occupied cell. Deputies immediately requested a response from the San Rafael Fire Department (SRFD). Deputies on scene began to perform life-saving measures until SRFD arrived. San Rafael Fire Department arrived at approximately 0222 hours.
The SRFD arrived at the Marin County Jail and continued life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the incarcerated person was pronounced deceased at 0242 hrs.
The Sheriff’s Office requested the San Rafael Police Department to conduct an independent investigation into the death of the incarcerated person. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, Coroners Division will handle the Coroner duties associated with the death. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for later this week.
Next of Kin of the decedent has already been notified.
No further information will be released from the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
