Sausalito Tow Truck Operator Collision Fatality - Identity Released

The decedent has been positively identified as:

James Robert Morris, a 38-year-old male from Benicia, CA 

On Tuesday, 02/26/2019, at approximately 2:29 PM the California Highway Patrol was dispatched to a traffic collision involving a tow truck operator assisting a stranded motorist on the right hand shoulder of southbound State Highway 101, north of Spencer Avenue near the Robin William’s Tunnel. Reportedly, for reasons unknown an approaching vehicle lost control on the wet roadway in the inclement weather, spun out and collided with the parked tow truck and vehicle operator, who was out of the vehicle assisting the stranded motorist.  First Responders were summoned to the scene and located the subject on the ground, who was unresponsive and unconscious.  Resuscitative medical aid was immediately provided and despite their efforts, the subject did not respond the treatment provided and his death was pronounced on the scene.

James Robert Morris, a 38-year-old male from Benicia, CA 

A forensic post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for later this week.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the California Highway Patrol-Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol-Marin Office.
