Sheriff's Office and Center Point, Inc Partner for new Day Services Center

Day Services Center (DSC) marks milestone achievement for Center Point, Inc. and Marin County Sheriff's Office.

On October 3, 2024, the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) awarded the Marin County Sheriff’s Office the 2024-27 Proposition 47 Cohort IV Grant totaling $6,149,144. The Sheriff's Office, in a collaborative partnership with Center Point, Inc. (CPI), a Marin County community-based non-profit Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) licensed and certified contracted behavioral health services agency, chose to help address recidivism through a proposed Marin Daily Services Center (DSC).  The DSC would provide substance use and mental health disorder treatment along with supportive services for Proposition 47-eligible male and female offenders within the criminal justice system who have a history of repeat, low-level offenses due to homelessness, mental health, and co-occurring substance use disorders.

The primary goals and objectives of the proposed DSC and Recovery Residence are to build upon the success of the previous Marin HHS Proposition 47 programs to expand and enhance evidence-based diversion programs that improve court-ordered compliance, recidivism reduction, and engage clients in substance use, mental health, and recovery and supportive services that improve personal health and resiliency, increase relapse prevention, and support an overall pro-social outlook. This funding marked the first stage in developing the array of services to address identified gaps in services and capacity, and to evolve the proposed Daily Services Center into a full-scope, comprehensive Day Reporting Center.

On August 14, 2025, this concept will come to fruition with the grand opening of Center Point Inc.’s Day Services Center (DSC) located at 630 Las Gallinas Avenue in San Rafael.  CPI will be offering tours of the DSC facility this Thursday, between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.  Sheriff Jamie Scardina and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Center Point, Inc., for serving as a subcontractor on the Proposition 47 Cohort IV initiative. The program is a collaborative effort to engage valued community partners, including the District Attorney’s Office, Probation Department, Public Defender’s Office, and local courts. Through these collective efforts, the Sheriff’s Office and Center Point can offer meaningful alternatives to incarceration and foster a more restorative, compassionate, and effective system of justice.

Since 1988, Center Point, Inc. (CPI) has delivered rehabilitative and community reintegration services through its criminal justice programs. They remain committed to helping justice-involved individuals reclaim their lives by providing comprehensive social, educational, vocational, medical, psychological, housing, and rehabilitation services tailored to meet their needs.

The DSC is a safe and structured space where individuals can access the tools and resources they need to reinvent and restart their lives. From behavioral health care and substance use treatment to job readiness and case management, the DSC serves as a vital bridge, connecting people to hope, stability, and long-term recovery. These services will play a critical role in breaking the cycle of incarceration and reducing recidivism. In partnership with Center Point, Inc., the Sheriff’s Office is building a system that recognizes the potential within every person. “I am proud of all we have accomplished, together, the Sheriff’s Office and Center Point, Inc. remain unwavering in their commitment to walk alongside those we serve, offering the care, support and connection needed to transform lives,” said Maurice Lee, CPI’s Chief Executive Officer.
