Stafford Lake Novato Traffic Collision Fatality

Due to the decedent being a minor, his identification is not being released by the Coroner Division at this time in respect to the family’s privacy.  The subject was a 17-year-old male from Novato, CA. 

On Saturday, February 19, 2022 at approximately 10:35 PM, it was reported to 9-1-1- a solo vehicle traffic collision had occurred near Stafford Lake in the 3500 block of Novato Boulevard, in unincorporated Novato.  Reportedly the vehicle, a 2005 Honda Pilot was travelling westbound, which for unknown reasons and remains under investigation, left the roadway and collided with tree.   First Responders were summoned to the scene and arrived shortly after.  They located four injured occupants; all of minor age.  All were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment; two with critical injuries and two with moderate-minor injuries. Sadly, a male passenger from the vehicle succumbed to his injuries on February 20, 2022 while an inpatient at a local hospital.

A death investigation with toxicology testing is being completed by the Coroner Division.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigations being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office.
