West Marin Head-On Motor Vehicle Collision - Fatality Information

The decedent has been positively identified as:

Todd Michael SHOBERG, a 42-year-old male from Petaluma, CA.

On Monday, September 28, 2020 at approximately 09:10 A.M. a head on motor vehicle collision was reported to 9-1-1 having occurred on Point Reyes-Petaluma Road west of Novato Boulevard near the French Marin Cheese Factory.  The subject and solo occupant of a Mazda 6 sport wagon travelling westbound, for unknown reasons and which remain under investigation, drifted across the center painted dividing lines of the roadway and struck a commercial Peterbilt dump truck with attached dump trailer travelling eastbound.  Reportedly both vehicles were operating at speed at the time of the incident resulting in catastrophic damage to both vehicles.  Regrettably, the driver of the sport wagon sustained fatal injuries and his death was pronounced on the scene by First Responders.  The driver of the commercial truck sustained injuries in the collision and was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.

A forensic post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for this morning.  The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the California Highway Patrol - Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office - Coroner Division.  No further information will be released by the Coroner Division at this time, as this is an active and ongoing investigation.  Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to the California Highway Patrol - Marin Office.
